April Check In
Birthday month check-in! This last month of classes has definitely been a whirlwind. As I mentioned in my March blog, I have spent most of this semester battling a mystery illness that left me suffering from a fever most days. However, thanks to everything I learned from my classes and from studying so frequently next to M1/M2 medical students (and thus absorbing some of their knowledge), I was able to figure out that I had cat scratch fever! My doctor quickly agreed, helped me get treated and I am now back to my good ol' self. Will this stop me from fostering more pets? Absolutely not! In fact, when my partner came to town, we went to Zeus's rescue along with Kayla and her boyfriend to walk some dogs and spend time with the cats. As an animal lover, I think I spent more time on each walk trying to convince my partner on why "this is the dog we absolutely need to adopt" than anything else but I am glad that we had the opportunity to help these dogs stretch their legs and get out of the shelter. If you are reading this and have been thinking of adopting a new cat or dog, might I suggest Gandalf for a cat and Harriet for a dog from Zeus's.
I am also still volunteering and tutoring one of the students from the WeMade program. While we were never able to implement our workshops with their busy tournament schedule, I am still glad that I was able to help at least one student. Watching his confidence and personality grow throughout our meetings has been great and I hope that I am able to continue meeting with him next year.
As we have been wrapping up classes, it felt bittersweet to say goodbye to all of our professors. While I am happy and proud to have made it so far with good grades, I am also sad that this chapter is coming to an end. I hope that this is not a complete goodbye, but rather a to be continued with Tulane as I continue my process of hopefully becoming a doctor.
