February Check-In

February has been busy! As we get in the full swing of the semester and of the Mardi Gras season, it has been interesting to balance the two. I have really been enjoying the neurology module and learning so much from Dr. Mostany. I appreciate how knowledgeable he is about something that I am very passionate about as a Neuroscience major. My foster cat, Gandalf, has finally started settling in and is now a complete cuddle-bug so if you know anyone searching for an orange cat, he is your guy! I appreciate the energy he has brought to our apartment, as he has forced me to take breaks from my studying to give him attention or food. For volunteering, the WeMade organization has still been focusing on their competitions leaving no time for me to do any seminars/resume-building with the boys. However, one of the boys in the program has been struggling with academic confidence in some of his classes so him and I have been meeting once a week to work on building that up. While it is a work in progress, he has gone from getting 60% on exams to 90s%. It has been rewarding to see his confidence grow and watching him feel more sure of himself and his answers. I will keep volunteering and tutoring him and eagerly await the opportunity to do another seminar with the rest of the boys. I am grateful to be living somewhere with so many cultural events available throughout the month. I was able to go to my first Mardi Gras parade after our exam this week and while I did not catch any major items, I was excited to catch some small trinkets. I also worked the SuperBowl earlier this month as my first bartending gig. I worked a private concert which was so exciting despite me knowing absolutely nothing about sports or drinks. I was proud of myself for putting myself out there and for making every drink correctly. As y'all know by now, I am always looking for the next fun cultural event to do so I will keep everyone updated on my next cool adventure in the city! February hours: 4 Total hours: 14
